Indiana Jones & Music for All Levels!
I often find that it is hard to easily show or describe the increasing difficulty of piano pieces to my students. So, I'm making an incomplete reference list for this blog post of piano pieces from Levels 2-8. By Level 2 (after Prep A, Prep B and Level 1), all pieces are chosen by the student, with direction and ideas from me. Students are welcomed and encouraged to explore all different styles of music, but I find that my background in classical music always brings me back to classical piano music. Though there are obviously arrangements that can be made of top 40 hits, film music (see video above), hymns, jazz, or whatever you'd like to play, here is a sampling of two contrasted piano pieces between Levels 2-8:
(Notice the progression of difficulty & variety of pianists I've chosen)
Level 2:
Level 3:
Level 4:
Etude in A Minor by Kabalevsky (cool video of practice tempos)
Melody or Ivan Sings by Khachaturian (00:00-1:22)
Level 5:
Für Elise by Beethoven (with orchestra - so exciting!)
Level 6:
Solfeggietto in C Minor by C.P.E. Bach
Level 7:
Level 8:
Prelude in D-flat Major (Raindrop) by Chopin
Shadow Dance by Edward MacDowell
After Level 8, I would say that pieces are mainly just increasing in length & technical difficulty. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you ever have any requests for popular music arrangements!
